Come hear some ContraDiction

You need a little poetry to spice up your life. Oh, come on. You know you do.

ContraDiction

--- Which is why you, like me, need to be at ContraDiction this Thursday to hear young poets read their work. The event is part of IndigNation Pride Month 2005.

Come lah. The bunny says so.

(Full disclaimer: The event is organised by a friend of mine. He's very creative, so all the more you should come!)

who's this SOB who did that? I agree with Ampulets, copy wholesale! Sorry I don't support people who rip off people's work; really a contradiction...

Uh, right.

Of course it's copied wholesale. Says so right at the bottom left of the graphic itself:

"graphic from kozyndan.com"

So, what was your point again, anonymous?

doesn't mean if it's credited applys that Kozyndan approved it. Straight from NYC...

'Applies,' my friend, 'applies.'

Well, I don't know if permission was given. Do you? Could you, maybe, seeing that y'all in the same city, yo, call up kozyndan and check with them?

And in the meantime, consider this:

1. The event was free;
2. The entertainment license was obtained from the relevant authorities. And was restricted to minors (R18), if I'm not wrong;
3. The event was meant to gather, in one place, all the most talented young people in Singapore, who also happen to be openly gay, to read their poetry. Something, I'm sure, will mean nothing to you if you're not from Singapore;
4. The image was not used in a manner prejudicial to the copyright owners;
5. The image was credited to the copyright owners;
6. The image was not used for hire or sale, or in trade, when hire or sale will occur.

The "'SOB' who did it", may not have gotten permission. He may have copied it "wholesale!" It was a graphic used for the event he was running. Could he have just printed out a blank card with just the text on it? Sure!

But in the spirit of "bunny with headphones. listen carefully," I think people went and they listened.

I am a photographer, and like you (I think), I get royally pissed off when I see my images used by people who didn't bother even with a simple accreditaion. Copyright! I scream!

But I'm not litigious: as long as I'm credited, and the image has not become prejudicial, I'm ok. And I believe I'm mature enough to say, "Hey, my image was used without my permission, but hey, look at what it's fostering."

Awareness, my friend.

So what? Terz or whoever you are, you're missing the point. You take whatever is given WITHOUT PERMISSION and then credit it in the final process. SO What?! We'll give you an example: I take any of your belongings (with the intention of returning it, of course) without informing you and later told you we took it. I don't think you WILL BE AGREEABLE at that point of time. Don't push it pal, we saw your photography work and we respect Singapore's creative industry. But what you're saying is utter rubbish. Don't turn the tables on us, since we're at the topic of 'awareness', then you ask your friends to take it down before we make a hoo-hah out of it.

I don't think I'm missing the point, I'm just missing your point, dear anonymous person. Just as you are missing mine.

But that doesn't really matter to me: so let's just say we'll not, and we'll never, see eye-to-eye on this matter.

I just got back from a really restful vacation and tym has requested I don't clutter up the comment board any more - I mean, for me to do more would liken this to, say, American forces in the Gulf.

So I'll end here. If you are really concerned about your awareness, do it. Raise the hoo-hah.

Note: Poor choice of example, my friend. Any friend of mine would know that they're free to use any of my stuff as long as they return it in the condition it was found, with or without telling me. Not everyone in Singapore feels this way anymore, unfortunately, but I was raised in a kampong and I remember when people were civil.

Get into your dumbass brain of yours: copyright means without the permission of the creators, you can't use it for any personal gains. Get it? And its NOT YOUR WORK!

Okay, you guys can discuss this till the end of time, but DO NOT CALL PEOPLE NAMES ON MY BLOG. Sarcasm, irony, facetiousness and general cleverness may be tolerated and even encouraged, depending on the circumstances, but I am not running a sandbox for five-year-olds here.
